Dr. Joon Nak CHOI (PhD - Stanford)
Joon Nak CHOI (JC) is an Adjunct Associate Professor the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Previously a professor at Stanford University and NYU Shanghai, he contributes to HKUST’s Task Force on Generative AI and represents the university as an Expert Delegate in AI to the Digital Education Council. Professor Choi earned his AB from Brown University, and his MA and PhD from Stanford.
His work focuses on the intersection of business and technology—encompassing AI, data science, business analytics, and innovation. He co-teaches an award-winning undergraduate course on AI at HKUST and has published in leading academic journals, as well as newspapers like the South China Morning Post. Professor Choi has been an invited speaker at major global forums (World Economic Forum, UNESCO-ICHEI, and industry chambers) and serves on various committees and boards.
He has co-founded and led several startups, including serving as Chief Data Scientist for AssertID (spun out from Stanford GSB) and founding Learnovate, an HKUST spinoff applying AI to education. He also advises private equity funds and AI startups.
